Navsop A ‘Could Be’ Successor Of GPS

NAVSOP has been developed by UK defense firm BAE SYSTEMS with a view of complementing rather than replacing the GPS technology. But the way it would work endorses that it will be a better piece of positioning system that might lower the value of GPS for the western world in the forthcoming time.
This new positioning system would work by getting Wi-Fi, Radio and TV broadcast signals from surroundings instead of relying upon satellite signals only that get weaken by the time they hit on planet earth. It has also been said that, the use of radio technology particularly medium waves would enable NAVSOP to work at places where even GPS fails. BAE SYSTEMS also claims that NAVSOP could also work in remote locations of planet earth by picking up signals from satellites in earth’s lower orbit. Hence, it would be an amalgamation of satellite signal and radio wave concepts but it will heavily rely upon medium wave radio frequencies to work effectively and that is what would enhance its scope. Moreover, it is also said that no additional infrastructure is required to use this new system because it already exists.
The prototype of NAVSOP is a big box like piece of hardware which has been placed at the back of BAE’s car which has a radio antenna at the roof. The makers also said that once the system is out in the market it would be as tiny as a GPS dongle – slight bigger than a coin – However, BAE SYSTEM’s does not consider this new technology a rival of GPS rather they take it as a technology which would compliment the existing system as said by BAE’s Dr. Ramsey Faragher to BBC “Let’s be clear – for NAVSOP to start learning, you have to have a GPS signal, to know where you are on the face of the Earth”.  Whatever they say it cannot be denied that NAVSOP could be revolutionary, once out in the market, may be even more than the GPS.

BetterLinux to debut at HostingCon 2012

Better Linux, Inc., a Linux software development company that improves Linux for hosting providers, Linux dedicated server hosting, data centers, SaaS, and cloud environments, has announced its debut appearance at HostingCon in Boston, Massachusetts on July 17-18th, 2012. HostingCon is a trade show for the web-hosting industry. BetterLinux, which runs on an ever-growing list of Linux distributions with full support, gives system administrators unprecedented, dynamic, user-level control over total system resources, including CPU, memory, I/O bandwidth, and IP bandwidth.

A linux dedicated server
Limiting system resources at the level of individual users and processes allows BetterLinux to dramatically raise server efficiency, density, stability, and profitability. Its added ability to intelligently redirect unused dedicated resources to eliminate waste is the first of its kind and brings a level of efficiency found nowhere else. “Everybody knows we’ve been working on this for a long time. I’m a perfectionist, so it had to be right. I think it’s going to be great. Try it. It’s free until 2013,” says Matt Heaton, CEO of Better Linux, Inc., and former CEO of Bluehost.com

Remove Linux Mint custom search in Chromium

The web browsers in the software repository of Linux Mint are usually set to use some custom search engines. For example,  Yahoo search and DuckDuckGo are used as the default search engines in Firefox, the preinstalled web browser of Linux Mint 13. ( learn how to change the default search engines of Firefox in Linux Mint 13)

If you install the Chromium browser in Linux Mint, you will find it uses the Linux Mint custom search for Google. If you dont like this custom search in Chromium, here is how to change it:

Open Chromium and click on the wrench icon on the top right corner, on the drop down menu, click on "Settings":

Remove Linux Mint custom search in Chromium

In the settings page, scroll to the Search category and click on the drop down box to select the default search engine. The first (default) one is the Linux Mint custom search of Google. To use the normal google search engine, you should pick the second option:

Change Linux Mint custom search in Chromium

You can also select Yahoo or Bing in the drop down menu if you want.

In case you want to use another search engine, like DuckDuckGo, click on the "Manage Search Engines" button on the right and you will be presented to the Search Engines Settings page. In this page, go to the Other Search Engine part and add DuckDuckGo to it. It should look like this:

Edit Linux Mint custom search in Chromium

The url to paste into the url box is:
http://duckduckgo.com/?t=lm&q=%s

After that, hit enter and you will have a new line for DuckDuckGo in the other search engines section. Hover the mouse over that line and you will see the "make default" button, click on it and Chromium will use DuckDuckGo as the search engine.

To install Chromium in Linux Mint, you can search for it in the Software Center or run the following command in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install chromium-browser
