Skolelinux 7.0 Alpha 0

Petter Reinholdtsen has announced the availability of the initial alpha build of Skolelinux (a project also known as "Debian-Edu"), a distribution designed for schools and based on the upcoming release of Debian GNU/Linux 7.0: "The Debian-Edu / Skolelinux project is still going strong and made its first 'Wheezy'-based release today. This is an updated and slightly improved version compared to the 'Squeeze release'. Software updates: everything which is new in Debian 'Wheezy', including Linux kernel 3.2.x, KDE 4.8.4, GNOME 3.4 and LXDE 4 desktop environments (KDE is installed by default), Iceweasel web browser 10, LibreOffice 3.5.4, LTSP 5.4.2, GOsa 2.7.4, CUPS print system 1.5.3 GCompris educational toolbox 12.01, Rosegarden music creator 12.04, GIMP image editor 2.8.2, Celestia virtual universe 1.6.1, Stellarium virtual stargazer 0.11.3, Scratch visual programming environment 1.4.0.6...." ExTiX 13

Arne Exton has announced the release of ExTiX 13, a remastered Ubuntu with a customised GNOME 3.6 desktop environment: "ExTiX 13 64-bit is a remaster of Ubuntu 13.04. The original system includes the Unity desktop. After removing Unity I have installed GNOME 3.6.3 and Cairo-Dock 3.2.1. The system language is English. My special kernel 3.8.0-19 corresponds to kernel.org's stable kernel 3.8.8. Among many other programs, LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, Brasero, VLC, GIMP and win32 codecs are installed. In addition Java and all necessary additions in order to install programs from source are also installed. All programs have been updated to the latest available stable version as of April 28, 2013. One big difference between Ubuntu and ExTiX - there is a password for root (and you can log in as root to GNOME after an installation to hard drive)." Miro 6 Release , Install Miro 6 in Ubuntu 13.04/12.10/12.04 and Mint 15/14/13

Install Miro 6 in Ubuntu 13.04/12.10/12.04 and Mint 15/14/13, Open Terminal (Press Ctrl+Alt+T) and copy the following commands in the Terminal:

• sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pcf/miro-releases 
• sudo apt-get update
• sudo apt-get install miro

Fedora 19 Alpha

Dennis Gilmore has announced the alpha release of Fedora 19, the first development build of the popular Red Hat-sponsored Linux distribution: "The Fedora 19 'Schrödinger's Cat' alpha release has arrived with a preview of the latest fantastic, free, and open-source technology currently under development." Mageia 3 RC

Anne Nicolas has announced that the only release candidate and the final development build for Mageia 3 is now ready for testing: "We are now two weeks from the end of the trip (at least we hope we will have no delay). Mageia 3 release candidate is now available for the very final tests. We need your feedback more than ever. The Mageia team is working hard to fix the last annoying bugs - what we call release-critical bugs. How do we qualify a release-critical one? All the bugs that cannot be fixed through updates, mainly in the installer, the kernel and some of the main drivers. As with the beta 4, live ISO images are still in progress and should be released in the coming days." Mageia 3 RC ships with the latest Linux kernel, version 3.8.8, and includes RPM 4.11, systemd 195, KDE 4.10.2, GNOME 3.6.3 and LibreOffice 4.0.2. Manjaro Linux 0.8.5 "MATE", "LXDE", "KDE"

The Manjaro development team has announced the release of three community editions of Manjaro Linux 0.8.5, featuring the MATE, LXDE and KDE desktop environments: "We are happy to announce three new Manjaro community editions featuring MATE 1.6, LXDE 0.5.5 and KDE 4.10.2. The community editions of Manjaro Linux are released as bonus flavours in addition to those officially supported and maintained by the Manjaro team, provided that the time and resources necessary are available to do so. Yusuf and Cumali from Manjaro Turkey released Manjaro KDE 2013.04 based on Manjaro stable repositories. It features the brand new KDE SC 4.10.2 point release."
