MX Linux 21.3

 

The MX Linux team have announced the release of an update to the project's 21.x series. The new version includes Xfce 4.18 and an optional updated kernel with new hardware support. "MX Linux 21.3 is the third refresh of our MX 21 release, consisting of bug fixes, kernels and application updates since our original release of MX Linux 21. If you are already running MX 21, there is no need to reinstall. Packages are all available thru the regular update channel. Highlights include: Debian 11.6 Bullseye base; new and updated applications; the Xfce releases now feature Xfce 4.18; Fluxbox gets a new mx-rofi-manager tool to save and manage rofi configuration; the KDE release is now a full AHS-enabled release, defaulting to the 6.0 AHS kernel; the Debian Stable kernel (5.10) is still available in mx-packageinstaller." Chakra GNU/Linux 2013.09

Neophytos Kolokotronis has announced the release of Chakra GNU/Linux 2013.09, a major new update of the Linux distribution that always features the latest KDE desktop: "The Chakra project team is delighted to announce the first release of Chakra Fritz. 'Fritz' is the name of a series of Chakra releases that follow the KDE Software Compilation 4.11 series and is dedicated to the memory of Fritz_Van_Tom. With this ISO image we offer KDE SC 4.11.1. In this release, many areas have received a number of improvements that affect multiple applications; most notably a speed boost on Akonadi. The Plasma Workspaces 4.11 will receive long-term support as the KDE team focuses on the technical transition to Frameworks 5. Korora 19 Beta

Ian Firns has announced the availability of the beta release of Korora 19, a Fedora-based distribution with GNOME or KDE desktops and a variety of tweaks and enhancements: "The Korora project is pleased to announce the first beta release of version 19 (code name 'Bruce') which is now available for download. This is the first beta release of Korora which is derived from a beta release of Fedora (previous beta versions of Korora were from a stable upstream release) and as such there will likely be a larger number of bugs and many software updates. Features: GNOME 3.8 brings new applications such as clock and improvements to the desktop including privacy and sharing settings, ordered search, frequent applications overview; KDE Plasma Workspaces 4.10 includes new features for printing and screen-locking...." SuperX 2.0

Wrishiraj Kaushik has announced the release of SuperX 2.0, an Ubuntu-based desktop Linux distribution with KDE 4.10.2: "This is SuperX 2.0, code-named 'Darwin'. It comes with Linux kernel 3.2 and KDE 4.10.2 by default. For those who want newer kernels, they are available in the repository. SuperX 2.0 is a whole new release of SuperX which differs fundamentally from the 1.x releases. Starting from SuperX 2.0 we are going our own way, making a diversion from our upstream distribution. We still use the Ubuntu code base but from this release we only use the LTS versions and development is done on its solid foundation. But unlike other solid, stability-concerned Linux operating systems, we provide the latest userland software like LibreOffice 4 and KDE 4.10. KANOTIX 2013 "LinuxTag"

Directly from the LinuxTag 2013 conference and exhibition in Berlin comes a new version of KANOTIX, a Debian-based distribution (with KDE or LXDE) on a live DVD: "I am proud to announce the release of KANOTIX Dragonfire from LinuxTag 2013 in Berlin. Kanotix Dragonfire is based on the recently released Debian 7.0. Besides KDE as the default desktop environment, beginning with this release there exists a lightweight alternative with LXDE. Additionally, we offer a special image similar to the CeBIT special. The main difference is that it has a pre-installed Steam client, a newer MESA version (9.1.1), gfxdetect and a newer glibc 2.17, KDE SC 4.8.4 and LXDE, Iceweasel 21.0, Linux kernel 3.9; LibreOffice 4.0.3...." Install the Italian Radio on Radio Tray in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring

Radio Tray is one of the most popular Linux users to listen to web radio directly from your Linux distribution. Special features of Radio Tray is to be easy to use and non-invasive because once you start going to add an applet in our panel and from there we will be able to add and manage categories for our favorite web radio.

It supports most popular formats such as m3u. pls ess being written in python we can install any Linux desktop environment such as Gnome Shell, KDE, Xfce, LXDE Cinnamon, etc. Mate DE. In recent years lffl has provided a PPA which allowed to install Radio Tray with already a collection of the major Italian radio such as Radio Rai, Radio Deejay, Radio 105, etc..

Given the many demands of the deb packages we decided to make an exception to the rule that does not give the packages but the list with the web radio constantly updated so that it can be installed in any Linux distribution.

I also remember that you can create a list with your favorite web radio by placing links that can be found for example from this portal.

To install the Italian Radio on Radio Tray in Ubuntu, Debian, Arch Linux, Fedora, etc. the first thing to do is to install Radio Tray application usually found in the repositories of major Linux distributions.

For Ubuntu, for example, just start Ubuntu or Ubuntu Software Center Apps Directory once installed the Radio Tray are moving and we will find the list of various foreign web radio.

What we need to do is to close Radio Tray and start the terminal and type:

• wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/964512/lffl/bookmarks.xml
• mv bookmarks.xml ~/.local/share/radiotray

Once this is done reboot Radio Tray Italian Radio and here are collected in categories.

If you have any web radio that does not work you can report it, correct it promptly list it so that it remains up to date and running. To update the list, just repeat the above procedure.

Manjaro Linux 0.8.5 "MATE", "LXDE", "KDE"

The Manjaro development team has announced the release of three community editions of Manjaro Linux 0.8.5, featuring the MATE, LXDE and KDE desktop environments: "We are happy to announce three new Manjaro community editions featuring MATE 1.6, LXDE 0.5.5 and KDE 4.10.2. The community editions of Manjaro Linux are released as bonus flavours in addition to those officially supported and maintained by the Manjaro team, provided that the time and resources necessary are available to do so. Yusuf and Cumali from Manjaro Turkey released Manjaro KDE 2013.04 based on Manjaro stable repositories. It features the brand new KDE SC 4.10.2 point release." Pardus Linux 2013 "Community"

Following the release of the "Corporate" edition last month, the Pardus development team has now also released the "Community" flavour of Pardus Linux 2013 (or "1.0" as it is called in the announcement). Available in both Turkish and English, the "new" Pardus is a desktop-oriented distribution based on Debian's "testing" branch. From the release announcement: "We are doing a stable and useful Linux called Pardus Community edition 1.0. We are sure you'll enjoy the many improvements. We have done our best in terms of stability and security that you have come to expect. Pardus Community edition 1.0 is now based on Debian 'Wheezy' and built using tools provided by the debian-live project. Easy to install and use. And also all drivers are included. All images boot as live CDs but they can be installed on your computer with the included installer." Porteus 2.0

Jay Flood has announced the release of Porteus 2.0, a Slackware-based live CD with a choice of KDE 4, LXDE, Razor-qt and Xfce desktops: "The Porteus community is excited to announce that Porteus 2.0 final is now available for immediate download. This is the first stable release of our Standard and Xfce editions based on Slackware Linux 14.0. Netrunner 12.12.1

Slax 7.0.4

Tomáš Matějíček has announced the release of Slax 7.0.4, the latest update of the project's Slackware-based live CD with KDE: "A new version of the Slax pocket operating system has been released. Ultimate Edition 3.5

A new version of Ultimate Edition, an Ubuntu 12.04 remix with KDE as the default desktop, was announced earlier today: "What is Ultimate Edition 3.5? Ultimate Edition 3.5 was built off Ultimate Edition 3.4 and Ubuntu 12.04 'Precise Pangolin' release. All packages fully updated and upgraded, old kernels purged, new initrd and vmlinuz rebuilt. Ultimate Edition 3.5 has a new GTK+ 3 theme and a comprehensive set of software packages. AgiliaLinux 8.1.1

AgiliaLinux 8.1.1 has been released. AgiliaLinux is a Russian Slackware-derived distribution with a custom, dependency-resolving package manager and support for several pre-configured desktop environments. Porteus 2.0 RC1

Ira McDaniel has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Porteus 2.0, a set of Slackware-based live images with a choice of KDE 4, LXDE, Razor-qt and Xfce desktop environments: "The Porteus community is excited to announce Porteus 2.0 RC1, the first development release of a new version for our standard and Xfce editions. Porteus is a lightweight, highly configurable and flexible live distribution based on Slackware that is optimized to run from USB drives, flash cards, CDs or other storage media. siduction 12.2.0 RC1

Ferdinand Thommes has announced the availability of the first release candidate for siduction 12.2.0, a desktop Linux distribution based on Debian's unstable branch and featuring four desktop environments - KDE, LXDE, Razor-qt and Xfce: "We are happy to present the first release candidate of siduction 2012.2 - 'Riders on the Storm'. Siduction 2012.2 ships with four desktop environments: KDE, Xfce, LXDE and Razor-qt, all in 32-bit and 64-bit variants. Razor-qt is the latest flavour that joins our regular release cycle after seeing a development release earlier this year. The released images are a snapshot of Debian unstable from 2012-11-19. KDE 4.9.3 Released! Run and Install it on Kubuntu

KDE 4.9.3 has been released and is also available from a few hours in the Kubuntu PPA . We begin first by new in this version: 4.9.3 KDE basically introduces no new features but focuses only on bug fixes and translation updates , a safe and pleasant update for everyone. The list of fixes 86 include improvements editor Kate and Kontact , so it is mostly a series of updates regarding the applications. Installing KDE 4.9.3 on Kubuntu

First I want to clarify that the PPA is currently only updated for Kubuntu 12.10 even if, in the next few days, it could be updated to Kubuntu 12.04! All you have to do to install KDE 4.9.3 is to open the terminal and type:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa: kubuntu-ppa/ppa
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get
dist-upgrade

And you will end, after the reboot, KDE updated to version 4.9.3

Slax 7.0 RC1

Tomáš Matějíček has announced the availability of the first release candidate for Slax 7.0, a brand-new version of the project's minimalist Slackware-based live CD with KDE 4: "I'm releasing the newest Slax 7 build as a release candidate 1. It has KDE 4 with many applications from the KDE network, KDE multimedia, KDE games, Pidgin IM, Firefox, MPlayer and more. The entire system fits to 183 MB for the 32-bit and 188 MB for the 64-bit variant and runs perfectly fine on boxes with 256 MB of RAM and more. This is most likely the version which contains all the programs for the final Slax release. Development tools are still missing though. Mandriva Linux 2012 Alpha 2

Per Øyvind Karlsen has announced the availability of the second alpha release of the new "Moondrake GNU/Linux" which is a possible new name for the venerable Mandriva Linux distribution: "Yet again keeping up the tradition of delays, a new prerelease is out: Moondrake GNU/Linux 2012 Alpha 2.
