Sabayon Linux 11

Fabio Erculiani has announced the release of Sabayon Linux 11, a Gentoo-based distribution available in GNOME 3, KDE, MATE and Xfce flavours: "We're here once again to announce the immediate availability of Sabayon 11 in all of its tier 1 flavours. Calculate Linux 13

Alexander Tratsevskiy has announced the release of Calculate Linux 13, a Gentoo-based distribution for desktops and servers: "We are proud to announce the final release of Calculate Linux 13. Main changes and fixes: meta-packages are no longer used to manage default dependencies; Portage files will be unpacked when booting for the first time; better identification of NTFS partitions; fixed the user profile configuration for VMware; Composite enabled by default for VMware; should you want to replace main applications, their launch icons will be created correctly; in case the user modified the local Portage overlay repositories, those can now be restored; Calculate Utilities were updated to 3.1; full French translation now available...." Pentoo 2012.0 Beta 2

Michael Zanetta has announced the availability of the second beta release of Pentoo 2012.0, a Gentoo-based distribution with a collection of utilities for penetration testing: "It's my favorite time of year again, the really short lul between Defcon and Derbycon. I've used my free time to polish up all the bug reports from our Defcon beta release and kick out a shiny new release. Many surprises await you, but I'm not building up a bug-fix beta more than I already have. New things: default hardened setup, torrent download. Live to hack, hack to live. If my dedication isn't obvious, today is my anniversary but here I am uploading betas, etc. You will not find a team of volunteers more dedicated than ours, so test the release and submit bugs so we can make it even better for you." SystemRescueCd 3.0.0

François Dupoux has announced the release of SystemRescueCd 3.0.0, a live CD containing a large number of data rescue and disk management utilities, based on Gentoo Linux. What's new? "Added support for loading extra SRM module files (System Rescue Modules); added support for UEFI booting from the CD-ROM on x86_64 using GRUB 2.00 (efi.img); updated standard kernels to long-term supported Linux kernel 3.2.28 (rescuecd + rescue64); updated alternative kernels to long-term supported Linux kernel 3.4.9 (altker32 + altker64); the rescuecd kernel image has been renamed rescue32 for better consistency; configured isolinux to automatically use the 64-bit kernel if CPU is capable; automatically use 64-bit version of FSArchiver and memtester if CPU is capable; reorganized and updated isolinux configuration and help messages; updated e2fsprogs to 1.42.5, GParted to 0.13.1, Partclone to 0.2.50." Liberté Linux 2012.3

Maxim Kammerer has announced the release of Liberté Linux 2012.3, an updated version of the project's Gentoo-based live CD distribution with strong Internet privacy features: "A new release has been published on SourceForge. In this release (notable user-visible changes): Linux kernel 3.4.7 with better hardware support (e.g., brcmsmac) and UnionFS replaced by OverlayFS, which is expected to be eventually accepted into mainline; EFI boot binaries are signed for Secure Boot (tested in OVMF), establishing a trusted boot chain starting with a KEK / DB certificate (located in EFI directory); X.Org Server 1.12 and Mesa 8.0 with Gallium3D for Radeon cards, nouveau driver for NVIDIA cards, and support for accelerated VMware graphics virtualization; simplified boot parameters handling -- most previous parameters are now omitted; added 'blacklist' boot parameter for blacklisting kernel modules from auto-loading...." Toorox 08.2012 "Xfce", "Lite"

Jörn Lindau has announced the release of Toorox 08.2012 "Xfce" and "Lite" editions, a Gentoo-based live DVD. Both editions feature the Xfce desktop environment, but "Lite" includes fewer applications and lighter productivity program (AbiWord instead of LibreOffice). From the release announcement: "Toorox 08.2012 'Xfce' and 'Lite' have been finished and are ready for download. This release is based on Linux kernel 3.3.8-gentoo and contains the latest Xfce desktop environment, version 4.10. Compiz has been built into the Xfce edition for a little bit eye candy. Michael Zanetta has announced the availability of the initial beta build of Pentoo 2012.0, a Gentoo-based live DVD featuring a collection of applications and tools designed to perform penetration testing: "The Pentoo team is pleased to announce public beta of Pentoo 2012. Yesterday at Defcon I was able to finally complete building of our brand new beta. I now present to you, the best pen-testing distro I was able to whip out in three days of heavy drinking and partying while walking around with my laptop all of Defcon constantly looking for a source of power to keep compile going.
