Pardus Linux 2013 "Community"

Following the release of the "Corporate" edition last month, the Pardus development team has now also released the "Community" flavour of Pardus Linux 2013 (or "1.0" as it is called in the announcement). Available in both Turkish and English, the "new" Pardus is a desktop-oriented distribution based on Debian's "testing" branch. From the release announcement: "We are doing a stable and useful Linux called Pardus Community edition 1.0. We are sure you'll enjoy the many improvements. We have done our best in terms of stability and security that you have come to expect. Pardus Community edition 1.0 is now based on Debian 'Wheezy' and built using tools provided by the debian-live project. Easy to install and use. And also all drivers are included. All images boot as live CDs but they can be installed on your computer with the included installer." Foresight Linux 2.5.3

Tomas Forsman has announced the release of Foresight Linux 2.5.3, a rolling-release desktop Linux distribution with Conary package management and a choice of GNOME 2, LXDE and Xfce desktops: "Announcing Foresight Linux 2.5.3. ClearOS 6.4.0

Peter Baldwin has announced the release of ClearOS 6.4.0 "Community" edition, a cloud-connected
server, network and gateway operating system designed for homes, hobbyists and small organisations: "ClearOS Community 6.4.0 is now available. Along with the usual round of bug fixes and enhancements, this release introduces a new reports engine, a storage manager, an anti-malware file scanner, RADIUS, a basic POP/IMAP server, and mail retrieval. Manjaro Linux 0.8.5 "Cinnamon"

Philip Müller has announced the release of Manjaro Linux 0.8.5 "Cinnamon" edition, an Arch Linux-based distribution with GNOME 3 and Cinnamon as the core user interface: "We are happy to release our final Manjaro Cinnamon community edition to the public. See this release as our last gift to this amazing GNOME fork, as we have to drop the support for Cinnamon in the near future. We can not maintain this edition anymore since upstream is dropping Cinnamon due incompatibility with GNOME 3.8. How to Solve nVidia Video Card Drivers Problems on Ubuntu 12.10

Ubuntu 12.10 has been released but immediately some users started to complain, and rightly so, because of a problem with the video card drivers. In particular, there seems to be a problem for all those who are in possession of some particular model of nVidia video card : it can happen, in fact, that the desktop does not appear after installing the driver experimental nvidia or even those owners . If you use the Open Source driver , however, everything runs smoothly.

must therefore fall back on the driver Open? It is said, there is a (rather more than one) solution to this problem and we will take back to below.

First solution

Press the key combination Ctrl + Alt + F1 to enter the emergency terminal. Log in with your username and password and type:

sudo apt-get install linux-source
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic

Now uninstall the current driver:

sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current

If it does not, try the command:

sudo apt-get remove nvidia-current-updates

or:

sudo apt-get remove nvidia-experimental-304

reinstalliamoli now (yes, it looks like a joke almost mockingly):

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current-updates

If everything is successful, type:

sudo shutdown-r now

And when you restart you should have solved!

Second solution

this solution is more immediate. Open the terminal of an emergency, press the key combination Ctrl + Alt + F1 and type:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings
sudo mv / etc/X11/xorg.conf / etc/X11/xorg.conf.old
sudo nvidia-xconfig

Now restart the whole typing:

sudo shutdown-r now

While Steam is currently probably the most downloaded application on Ubuntu, a tower defense game War in a Box - Paper tanks is storming the Ubuntu Apps Charts. In March, the game was on the 4th place in the Top 10 of commercial applications in the Ubuntu Software Center.
